As the healthcare industry evolves to keep up with technological advancements and the healthcare demands of an aging American population, creation of a more comprehensive, sound, and portable healthcare records management system becomes a priority. Electronic Health Record (HER) Specialists play a vital role in the proper handling of electronic data, including electronic patient data, privacy, and document management. These professionals code and categorize patient information for doctors, insurance personnel, and other healthcare professionals. NWSC’s 12-week program is designed to provide an overview of the fundamentals in creating medical records from existing paper files, software applications in ICD-10, and electronic file maintenance. Upon completion of the program, students will be eligible to take a national certification examination.
Graduates are trained in generating and maintaining electronic medical records and may find work in hospitals, doctors’ offices, clinics, and other medical facilities.
Upon completion of the program, the student should be able to:
- Qualify for the occupational titles of EMR Specialist, EMR Technician, EMR Abstractor, or EMR Clerk for the healthcare industry.
- Utilize training in generating electronic medical records in cutting overall healthcare costs.
- Fulfill the need for better oversight in treatment and outcomes by maintaining electronic health records.
