Northwest Suburban College offers healthcare training courses in HIPAA, OSHA, and CPR, so that you can brush up on relevant healthcare regulations and emergency procedures. All continuing education courses are offered on an as-needed basis. The schedules are determined by the availability of both instructor and students. The Community CPR Course

6 clock hours

This continuing education course is designed for all healthcare professionals and workers as well as
community members. The Community CPR course is designed to provide non-professional rescuers the fundamental skills and confidence to perform CPR on adults, children, or infants. This course will teach participants how to recognize and alleviate airway obstructions, the proper use of an AED, and the signs, symptoms, and corrective action for a stroke or heart attack.

Understanding HIPAA for Healthcare Professionals

This continuing education course is designed for all healthcare professionals as well as general
community members. The course provides a general overview of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) that established the uniform standards for protecting the privacy of healthcare information and providing for the protection of individual healthcare information against unauthorized access or use without proper consent. This course will discuss the basic principles of HIPAA and use real-life scenarios that can affect the patient and you as a healthcare professional.

Occupational Safety and Health Act Course for Healthcare Professionals

7 clock hours

This continuing education course is designed for all healthcare professionals as well as general
community members. The course provides an overview of the Occupational Safety and Health Act,
federal agency occupational safety and health responsibilities, and workplace OSHA techniques.
Participants are given instruction in various OSHA standards. Special emphasis is directed at safety and health hazards that are causing serious injuries and illnesses in the healthcare sector. The course features mock healthcare related scenarios and use of safety techniques and laboratory equipment.
