Northwest Suburban College is seeking an experienced and credentialed MRI Technologist to serve as a Part-Time Instructor and Clinical Preceptor for our newly approved MRI Technologist Certification Program. This role is ideal for a high-performing MRI professional who is passionate about mentoring the next generation of technologists while contributing to a growing healthcare education institution.

Compensation (Tiered Based on Experience)

Instructor I – $42/hour

  • ARRT (MR)
  • 2–4 years MRI clinical experience
  • Limited teaching experience

Instructor II – $45–$48/hour

  • ARRT (MR)
  • 4+ years MRI clinical experience
  • Prior clinical preceptor or teaching experience

Compensation is commensurate with credentials, clinical expertise, and educational background.

Position Summary

The MRI Instructor / Clinical Preceptor provides both didactic and clinical instruction consistent with ARRT MRI certification eligibility standards. This role ensures students achieve required competencies, professional conduct, and clinical proficiency necessary for successful entry into the MRI profession. 

The position supports NWSC’s commitment to academic excellence, clinical rigor, and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities Didactic & Laboratory Instruction

  • Teach MRI physics, instrumentation, pulse sequences, and imaging parameters
  • Instruct MRI safety screening procedures and Zone safety compliance
  • Guide students in patient positioning, coil selection, and protocol application
  • Deliver instruction in contrast administration principles (within scope)
  • Develop and maintain syllabi aligned with certification standards
  • Assess student performance and document learning outcomes
  • Participate in Academic Council and program meetings as needed

Clinical Preceptor Responsibilities

  • Supervise students during MRI procedures in clinical settings
  • Ensure strict adherence to MRI safety protocols and patient care standards
  • Evaluate and document student competency progression
  • Provide structured feedback and mentorship
  • Communicate performance concerns to the Program Director
  • Maintain compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, and institutional policies

Minimum Qualifications

  • ARRT Registered Technologist (R.T.) with MRI credential (ARRT (MR))
  • Minimum 2 years of MRI clinical experience
  • Strong understanding of MRI safety regulations
  • Professional communication and mentoring skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Radiologic Sciences or related field
  • Experience teaching in an accredited imaging program
  • Clinical preceptor experience
  • Lead MRI technologist experience
  • Familiarity with competency-based education models
