A Dental Assistant is a key team member in any dental office. They help dentists by performing tasks that keep the office running smoothly. These tasks range from:
- Taking X-rays to prepare patients for treatments
- Making patients feel comfortable
- Explain procedures and ensure that patients understand their follow-up care instructions
- Holding a patient’s hand if they’re nervous
- Cleaning and sterilizing instruments
- Managing the office schedule, and ordering supplies
Their role is very hands-on and often requires multitasking.
Dental Assistants develop different skill sets, undergo specialized training, as well as pursue different career avenues for the future whether it is a Dental Hygienist or an oral surgeon. Northwest Suburban College brings students awareness by providing the students an opportunity to talk with Dental professionals and organizations, and externships.
“It’s our job as educators to give our many years of experience and knowledge of the field to our students to succeed.” Bita Keshavarzy Dental Assistant Instructor at Northwest Suburban College
